Located among the picturesque hills of Umbria, this city has been attracting pilgrims and travelers from all over the world for centuries. It was here that Saint Francis was born — one of the most revered saints of Christianity, who gave up wealth for simplicity, love for people and harmony with nature. His image has influenced the culture of Europe so much that Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy calls him the «sun» that came down for the world. We will visit the Basilica of St. Francis — one of the most important shrines in Italy, where his relics are kept and Giotto's frescoes that changed the history of art are located. Let's see the places associated with his life and understand why his teachings remain relevant today. Separately, let's talk about Saint Chiara — a follower of Francis, who founded the Order of Poor Clares. We will walk through the medieval streets of the city, discover its panoramic terraces with incredible views of the Umbrian valley and experience the special atmosphere of peace for which Assisi is called the «city of peace». If you wish, we will visit the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli, where Porziuncola is located — is a small chapel from which the Franciscan movement began. Here you can pass through the Holy Door (Porta Santa), which has a special spiritual meaning during the vacation.
