The Borghese Gallery — is one of the most impressive art collections in Rome, where masterpieces of painting and sculpture of the XV–XIX centuries are collected in a space that was created for art from the very beginning. I invite you to this exquisite gallery, where the works of Raphael, Perugino, Titian, Caravaggio, Correggio are presented under the luxurious ceilings, as well as ancient sculptures and works of Bernini and Antonio Canova, — artists who shaped the artistic language of their eras. We will talk not only about art, but also about the people who stood behind this collection. You will learn the history of the villa and its ambitious founder — Cardinal Scipione Borghese, who replenished the collection not only through purchases, but also through confiscations, political influence and cunning arrangements. On the first floor we will see Bernini's sculptural masterpieces — «Pluto and Proserpine», «Apollo and Daphne», «David», in which marble literally comes to life, losing its weight. On the second floor, the world of painting — by Raphael, Titian and Caravaggio will open, as well as the stories behind their appearance in the collection, including the dramatic fate of Raphael's «Descent from the Cross. We will pay special attention to: — to Caravaggio's masterpieces and the stories of their entry into the gallery; — to Bernini's sculptures, where the stone turns into movement and emotion; — by imagining the beauty of past eras and how they were reflected in art; — collecting intrigues: passions, ambitions and even scandals that accompanied the creation of this unique collection.
